Gary, IN Airport Manager Leaves After Less Than A Year

Has Accepted A Similar Position In Florida

The general manager of the Gary/Chicago International Airport (KGYY) is leaving after only 10 months on the job.

The McClatchy news service reports that, according to an airport spokesman, Michael Zonsius has accepted a similar position in Florida and will be moving on.

Zonsius came to KGYY just last spring. He was appointed general manager of the airport by AvPorts, a private firm with a 10-year contract to manage the airport for the northern Indiana city.

At Monday's airport board meeting, Airport Authority Chairman Stephen Mays thanked Zonsius for his service.

Zonsius had been the CFO for the Chicago Department of Aviation, and had been the liaison between that body and the Gary Airport before being named general manager at KGYY.
