Society Of Women Engineers' Names Aerojet 2010 Sustaining Benefactor Of The Year

Aerojet Has Worked With SWE For More Than 25 Years

The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) has named Aerojet as the 2010 Sustaining Benefactor of the Year for SWE Region A, the company announced Monday.

This prestigious award recognizes companies that provide significant contributions to assist the SWE with career guidance, outreach, diversity pursuits, and community goals, either through generous funding or in-kind resource support. Aerojet's parent company's philanthropic arm, the GenCorp Foundation, has provided annual funding for Sacramento Valley's SWE scholarships since 2006, allowing for youth to be exposed to engineering and inspiring them to enter the technology and engineering work forces.

Aerojet's overall relationship with SWE exceeds 25 years in the Sacramento area (Aerojet supports SWE at multiple sites nationwide), and has been a consistently strong supporter of SWE's most critical programs and goals. Aerojet also participates at the national level through membership in the Heritage Club and with annual recruiting at the National Conference Career Fair. This assistance also helps promote the advancement of professional engineers through funding development events and other SWE leadership activities as well as rewarding the achievement of engineers at all levels.

Region A encompasses the Northern California, Northern Nevada and Hawaii SWE chapters. University chapters reside at UC Berkeley; UC Davis; CSU, Chico; CSU, Fresno; CSU, Sacramento; University of Hawai'i at Manoa; University of Nevada, Reno; University of the Pacific; San Francisco State University; San Jose State University; Santa Clara University; Stanford University; and Humboldt State University.

"We are honored to be recognized with this award," said Vice President of Space and Launch Systems, Julie Van Kleeck. "Aerojet is actively involved in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) to help ensure that through our youth, the nation will continue to be the leader in science and technology."
