Debris Found In Fuel Tanks Of Stored Boeing 737 Max Airplanes

Planemaker Plans To Address Problem With Updated Checklists

Foreign Object Debris (FOD) has been discovered in the fuel tanks of an unspecified number of Boeing 737 MAX airplanes waiting for delivery to customers.

CNN Business reports that Boeing acknowledged the issue in a note to employees from Mark Jenks, vice president and general manager of the 737 program and the Renton, Washington, factory.

Jenks called the issue "absolutely unacceptable. One escape is one too many. With your help and focus, we will eliminate FOD from our production system.

"During these challenging times, our customers and the flying public are counting on us to do our best work each and every day. That's why we're taking action," he said.

There are nearly 400 737 MAX aircraft parked on ramps waiting for delivery to customers once the airplane has been recertified.

Boeing said that it will address the issue with updated instructions and checklists for employees during the manufacturing process. Additional inspections and audits through the process will also be required.
