EAA Hosts 'Flight Simulator Day' Sept. 28
EAA AirVenture Museum visitors will
have a unique, exciting opportunity to enjoy the real and virtual
worlds of flight in the same location on Sunday, Sept. 28, when the
museum hosts a "Flight Simulator Day" at the facility.
This special event, included with regular museum admission,
features EAA's world-class aircraft collection along with the
capabilities of Microsoft's new Flight Simulator 2004: A Century of
Flight software, which was launched at EAA AirVenture this summer.
Microsoft and EAA collaborated on several features in the new
version of the world's most popular flight simulation software,
including:
- EAA's Ford Tri-Motor accurately modeled in the new
software;
- EAA's Spirit of St. Louis replica provided flight data for the
virtual airplane in the new software;
- The Wright Flyer cradle cockpit was designed by EAA to showcase
the capabilities of the first successful powered aircraft.
Several flight simulator stations will be set up throughout the
museum where visitors can try the new software. Just outside of the
museum, many of the most popular airplanes featured in Flight
Simulator 2004 will be on display. Several of the airplanes,
including the actual Ford Tri-Motor used in the new software, as
well as a Piper Cub and Spirit of St. Louis replica, will be
available for passenger flights from the museum's Pioneer Airport
(weather permitting; passenger flights require additional
fees).
The EAA AirVenture Museum is located just off Highway 41 at the
Highway 44 exit in Oshkosh. The Museum is open Monday through
Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5
p.m.
