Virtual DC-3 Reunion Goes Live

"The Last Time" Organizers Launch An Online Tool To Share History, Experiences

The Last Time has launched a powerful search engine for those who have shared in 75 years of Douglas DC-3 history. The year 2010 marks the 75th anniversary of the first flight of the iconic Douglas DC-3 and what is likely to be last time for this reunion of aluminum and engines with the people that saw it all.

The Virtual Reunion Board is a powerful web-based tool on the organization’s website  that allows anyone with an interest in the DC-3 to share their connection with the airplane. The tool is designed to serve as a way for people to find each other who plan to join the DC-3’s 75th anniversary events this summer at Whiteside County Airport, in Rock Falls, Illinois, on July 24-26, and at EAA AirVenture 2010 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, on July 27-August 1.

The Virtual Reunion Board can be accessed on the website by both the media and the general public. The search functions allow you to look up people in a given age range, occupation, company history, or interest area—so that you can connect directly with specific people prior to and during the actual events. Just click on the red “DC-3 Reunion” link on the website’s menu to get started.

“Say you want to get together a group of pilots who flew for North Central Airlines in the 1940s,” says database designer Garrett Massey. “The Virtual Reunion Board allows you to enter those search parameters and find out exactly who plans to attend—or who has simply visited the board—that matches what you’re looking for. It’s a tool for the media and a tool for attendees, bringing together DC-3 people with the media, airplanes, and location.”

Contact information enables people to meet up at the reunion immediately, or to plan to meet at other DC-3 events. Although nightly events are planned, the central DC-3 Reunion is scheduled for Thursday night at EAA’s Theater in the Woods and will include an unusual program of entertainment, music, and a spotlight of the Hero’s of the vintage era of aviation that are in attendance.
