FAA Plans GPS Interference Testing Off South Carolina Coast

Signals May Be Unreliable Or Unavailable During The Test Periods

The FAA is planning another round of GPS interference testing off the coast of South Carolina on April 14 and 19. The GPS testing may result in unreliable or unavailable GPS signal.

According to the NOTAM, the testing will be centered at 38 nautical miles east of the Charleston VORTAC on the 151-degree radial.

Testing is scheduled for 1300Z-2100Z (0900-1700 EDT) on April 14, and 1500Z-2300Z (1100-1900 EDT) on April 19.

NAV (CSG4 GPS 16-02) GPS (including WAAS, GBAS, AND ADS-B) may not be available within a 289NM radius centered at 322300N0793500W (CHS 151038) FL400-UNL

The area of unavailability will decrease in altitude as follows:

  • 242NM radius at FL250,
  • 174NM radius at 10000 FT,
  • 130NM radius at 4000 FT AGL,
  • 063NM radius at 50 FT AGL.

Pilots are encouraged to report anomalies only when ATC assistance is required.
