You Can Still Get a 'Jet Job'

...or Win a Type Rating

More than 325 pilots met with 35 representatives from 11 major, national, and regional airlines during AIR, Inc.’s second Airline Pilot Career Seminar, Airline Forum, and Job Fair of 2003, held on April 12, at the Sheraton Gateway Hotel at LAX. AIR, Inc. predicts approximately 5,000 - 6,000 new airline pilot jobs for 2003.

"During the Job Fair Saturday evening, Comair reported scheduling 50 pilot interviews, Pinnacle Airlines/Northwest Airlink scheduled six and Ameriflight handed out numerous applications to the pilots in attendance," said Kit Darby, president of AIR, Inc. "Airlines still need pilots, and with more than 8,000 pilots currently furloughed, there are plenty of pilots who need flying jobs." Year-to-date, 1,250 pilots have been hired by 88 different airlines.

The 11 airlines represented at the Job Fair in Los Angeles on April 12 were two majors: Alaska and American Trans Air; four nationals: AirNet, AirTran, ASA and Comair; four jet operators: Ameriflight, JetBlue, Pinnacle Airlines, Inc./Northwest Airlink and North American Airlines; and TAB Express, a pilot training company.

Winners Got Type Ratings

Highlights of the seminar included AeroService Aviation Training Academy (a commercial aviation training organization based in Miami, FL), awarding a choice of a free B-727/737/747 type rating, valued at $8400, to seminar attendee Frank Sundklakk from Chicago (IL). PanAm International Flight Academy also awarded an A320 type rating, valued at $13,200, to Juan Velez from Reston (VA).

In addition to the seminar, seven separate workshops were offered throughout the weekend. The workshops featured were Furlough Survival, Crew Resource Management, Military to Airline Transition, Résumés/Applications, Interview Survival, Civilian to Airline Transition, and Testing and Simulator Check.

Don't Miss the Next Fair!

The next AIR, Inc. Airline Pilot Career Seminar, Airline Forum, Job Fair and Workshops is scheduled for June 20~22, 2003, in Atlanta (GA), at the Renaissance Concourse Hotel at Hartsfield Int'l Airport.
