Eagle East Aviation, the Lawrence Airport
Educational Foundation, and the Boston FSDO recently sponsored a
weekend-long emergency maneuver training clinic at Lawrence
Municipal Airport (LWM). Spin expert, author, and Master Flight
Instructor Rich Stowell conducted an evening safety seminar and
provided several days of hands-on training in his trademark
emergency maneuver techniques.
More than (85) people attended the free seminar on
Emergency Maneuver Training and the PARE® Spin Recovery
Checklist. Pilots also traveled to LWM from New York, Maine, New
Hampshire, and around Massachusetts for an opportunity to train
with Stowell. In spite of some lingering low clouds, the clinic put
up the following numbers: (19) training sorties in (7) different
airplanes; more than (150) assorted stalls; (40) spin
entries/recoveries; (5) flight reviews given. All this without a
single Sic-Sac deployment!
According to Eagle East co-owner Tim Campbell, "We're always
looking for new ways to showcase our airport and promote aviation
safety. The feedback from this clinic has been very positive, and
we hope to do this again next year."
Ed
Higgins, who pilots a Beech Sport when he's not on duty as the
Chief of the Lynn, MA Fire Department, commented: "I go to a lot of
safety seminars, and this was by far the best one I've ever
attended. As for the hands-on training, it was a great thrill to be
able to experience in reality the concepts we had learned in the
seminar. Stowell is a great instructor with the ability to put the
student at ease and to communicate his knowledge in a way that is
easily understood. After one hour with Stowell, I feel I'm already
a better pilot. I can't wait to have him return so I can take my
next lesson."
