Frontier Pilots to Picket, Launch New Website and Ad Campaign

ALPA Says Negotiations Have Stalled As The Holidays Approach

Hundreds of Frontier Airlines pilots, joined by Frontier flight attendants and pilots from other airlines, will hold an informational picket and rally in downtown Denver on Thursday, December 7. Union negotiators for the Frontier pilots have just completed another fruitless bargaining session with management and are ready to ask the federal government to release them from mediation and start the clock towards a future pilot strike.

As the holiday travel season continues, Frontier pilots are also taking their message to the public with a new customer website, social media and online advertising, and colorful highway billboards throughout the Denver area. Their message: by refusing to bargain in good faith, management is leaving Frontier pilots out in the cold, and they are 100% ready to strike.

The informational picket will be conducted at Denver's Civic Center Park from 11:30 am until 1:00 pm local time, with a rally to follow. ALPA president Capt. Tim Canoll is expected to attend the event.

According to ALPA, Frontier’s more than 1,100 pilots are working under a bankruptcy-era contract that’s more than 10 years old and makes them the lowest-paid pilots for their aircraft type in North America. The pilots have been in direct negotiations since March 2016, and entered federal mediation in October of last year.

The union in October unanimously approved an initial $2 million grant to the Frontier pilots from its Major Contingency Fund (MCF). The MCF is a $46 million “war chest” that provides ALPA pilot groups with the necessary resources to respond to threats to their jobs and to the piloting profession.
