Southwest Regional EAA Fly-In Readies For Growth In 2006

Streamlines Board Structure

The Southwest Regional EAA Fly-In, also known as the EAA Texas Fly-In, is planning for additional growth when the aviation event returns to Hondo, on May 12th - 14th, 2006.

The fly-in's organizational structure has also been streamlined to improve the administrative efficiency of the event. The organized unit will now have a chairman of the board as well as a president, and two executive vice presidents. Current president Stan Shannon currently also serves as chairman, but the two positions are hoped to be separated in the near future. In addition, Harry Cook of Kerrville, Texas, is now executive vice president in charge of all air operations, while Norris Warner of Pipe Creek, Texas, is executive vice president of all ground operations.

"We have successfully relocated to an airport at Hondo that is nearly ideal for a major regional fly-in," Shannon said. "Now we have adjusted our organization's officers and staff to promote growth."

Six other vice presidents, as well as a secretary and treasurer of the board, were elected executive officers of the Fly-In. Ten other directors of the SWRFI board are not officers but carry out important functions at the annual Fly-In, which was started in 1963 at Georgetown, Texas, by the late Tony Bingelis, an EAA Hall of Fame member.

The schedule for the 2006 event will be announced as it is finalized.
