Avidyne Begins Temporary Supply Chain Procedures, Price Quotes Prior To Fulfilment
Avidyne posted a notice on its user forum warning of "unprecedented supply chain challenges in recent months". The company states that they have exhausted all options at maintaining costs and component availability, including stocking electronics 52+ weeks in advance of production needs, but suppliers have cancelled or pulled out of orders. New component shortages and price increases on the wholesale side occur daily, according to Engineer Steve Lindsley.
One case study presented describes a long-term purchase agreement for a component used on Avidyne's IFD and Skytrax products, of which a supplier informed the company that despite their duty to fulfill past agreements, they would be unable to supply more until 2024. A limited number of alternative parts allowed to cover production through most of 2022, but the replacement part comes at a fivefold price increase over the original. Unfortunately, Lindsley says, such cases are not uncommon.
To address the changes, Avidyne has made a few policy changes that will - provided the global supply chains return to normalcy and stability - be temporary. Until such time, Avidyne has made a few policy changes:
"We will honor all purchase orders received and accepted prior to today for shipment in 2021. All promotions are suspended. All new purchase orders going forward and orders scheduled in 2022 will be subject to a temporary Component Cost Increase Surcharge. We will establish these surcharges at the beginning of each month. When we accept a purchase order, we will confirm the price and delivery of that order, or we will provide our best estimate of our timeframe for delivery. Please confirm this surcharge amount with your dealer."
Responding to a question from one member on the forum, Lindsley said that currently, the surcharge only applies to IFD's and Skytrax products. He also noted, for those interested, that Avidyne's NGT9000 is in stock and ready to order. Future products may be subject to inconsistent delays owing to the spotty nature of product fulfillment from wholesalers. Lindley closed saying Avidyne will strive to ensure that each order accepted at the quoted price and delivery date will be supplied, as well as try to mitigate pricing impacts on the system.
