Mooney: No LSA, Mum On Jet

Acclaim Deliveries Top One Per Week

Mooney came to AirVenture armed with their biggest display ever, and good news about their sales. Mooney's Acclaim, first delivered in November 2006, passed a milestone this month -- 50 Acclaims are now in the hands of owners, including one particular owner who will be present July 25.

NASCAR driver Matt Kenseth, who uses his Acclaim to commute between his North Carolina home and race sites across the country, will appear at the Mooney booth from 11 am until 1 pm.

The Acclaim's performance -- in flight and on the sales ledger -- is a source of pride for the company.

"The Acclaim's performance in the marketplace rivals its performance in the air," said Mooney vice president of sales and marketing David Copeland. "Sales took off and began climbing as soon as we introduced the airplane at the 2006 Sun 'N Fun Fly-In, and they haven't slowed down."

As other manufacturers scramble to build lighter -- and slower -- airplanes, Mooney's efforts focus on speed... so much that Mooney's CEO, Dennis Ferguson, rebuffed a question about Mooney building a LSA.

"When you think of Mooney, what word comes to mind," Copeland asked. "Speed."

Another reporter immediately pointed out, "Nothing says speed like a jet!"

Copeland: "I just can't tell you anything about that. I'm not even going to hint...

But Mooney execs did leave the hint... "We'll have a major announcement at AOPA."
