Aero-TV: AMA President Bob Brown - Defending The Front Lines Of Model Aviation

Aviation's Oldest Entry-Level Activity Is Under Fire... AMA Is Fighting Back!

Wherever you fly - Whatever you fly, AMA Has You Covered. ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell, visited the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) Expo 2016 and had a chance to get in touch with his, “inner child.”

Like so many in aviation, Jim got his start with model aircraft and then moved into what the modelers call, “full scale” aviation. While there, Jim had the pleasure of interviewing Bob Brown, who is the president of the AMA.

Jim started his conversation with Brown about their organization’s recent challenges with the FAA moving in to regulate a part of aviation that has always done well on its own without the heavy hand of government control. Keep in mind, the AMA was created in 1936, and has successfully self-regulated its members, which today amounts to more than 185,000 model enthusiasts. Brown said that the AMA is capable of working through these challenges and is well prepared to do the job.

Brown addresses the issue of model aircraft registration, and he provides insight as to how the AMA views this new regulation. When you listen to his conversation with Jim, you’ll see that the concerns of AMA and their membership are quite similar to those of other organizations such as EAA and AOPA.

And by the way, while you’re listening to Jim and Bob discuss the issues, you’ll see some great video of model aircraft in action at the Expo.
