Detroit Aircraft Corp Announces New Company: AirspaceX

Goal Is To Bring On-Demand Air Travel To The Public

Detroit Aircraft Corp has formed AirspaceX, an air mobility company that it says will help deliver affordable, on-demand air travel, connecting cities, suburbs, and surrounding airports around the world. AirspaceX unveiled MOBi, its electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) aircraft that enables fast, clean, and reliable transportation at the Uber Elevate Summit in Dallas.

Thanks to recent advances in electric propulsion, automation, and lightweight materials, VTOL aircraft are enabling a new way to travel by air, and the fictional, Jetsons-like future is closer than we think, the company says. According to a recent study, the average American urban commuter spends 42 hours per year stuck in traffic. With MOBi, you can drive less and do more. Imagine a 90-minute commute in stop-and-go traffic reduced to a mere six minutes in air.

"With MOBi, we will deliver a new experience in air transit and point-to-point air mobility. It will be a clean, quiet, stabilized flight experience that is accessible and affordable to the masses," said Jon Rimanelli, Founder and CEO of AirspaceX. The aircraft has an electric motor, producing zero carbon emissions, and is significantly quieter than helicopters and airplanes.

AirspaceX is in the design and development phase and will begin production on MOBi in 2020. The company is in partnership talks with proven aerospace and transportation companies to bring the technology and services to the public.
