Garmin 'Working Diligently' On XM WX Portables Outage

Problem Seems To Be Affecting Garmin Portables, In Particular

ANN has been monitoring reports of problems with a number of the Garmin GPSMAP portable series. According to Garmin sources, device using GXM30/30A/40 antennas are currently having problems with receiving XM WX transmissions and the resultant display of that data.

Most hard hit, according to the reports received by ANN, are the popular Garmin GPSMAP 396 and 496 portable units (we have received no such reports so far on the 696 series), though Garmin indicates that, thus far, they are not aware of any specific problems with panel mount systems utilizing similar technologies, though reports on the Cirrus Owner's and Pilots Association forums indicate that some XM services, specifically audio, may be experiencing some occasional outages.

Currently, though, Garmin recommends that persons who are experiencing difficulties might find a resolution by logging onto http://refresh.xmradio.com and executing a system refresh.

Problems started cropping up a few days ago, just prior to the New Year's holiday, though the Perspective outages appear to be more of a random affair than systemic and mostly isolated to audio issues.

ANN continues to monitor the situation and will present more info as it becomes available though gamin promises that they are "working diligently" to find a proper solution ASAP.
