WV Airport Receives $70K Grant

Mercer County Airport Authority Will Rehab Bluefield Runway

The Mercer County, WV Airport Authority has received a $70,000 AIP grant to fund design work leading to the rehabilitation of the runway at the Mercer County Airport (KBLF) in  Bluefield.

The Bluefield Daily Telegraph reports that the grant was announced Tuesday by Congressman Evan Jenkins (R-WV).

"The Mercer County Airport holds tremendous potential for economic development and tourism for southern West Virginia and neighboring Virginia. This grant will build on previous investments in this airport and help improve the flying experience for pilots and passengers alike. Our transportation infrastructure is the key to growing and attracting new employers and opportunities to our region, and I am working every day to secure the funding needed to improve our economy and enhance our quality of life," Jenkins said.

The program will ensure that the 4,743-foot runway is structurally sound.

The airport is a public-use general aviation facility.
