Goin' and Growin': PWC PW600 VLJ Engine Program Gains Altitude

Pratt & Whitney Canada tells ANN that it has delivered more than 50 of its PW600 new generation turbofan engines, currently powering the Cessna Mustang and the Eclipse 500 VLJs.

"Our production ramp-up of PW615F and PW610F engines is firmly on track and deliveries to both Cessna and Eclipse are rapidly gaining altitude," said Andrew Tanner, vice president, Business Aviation, P&WC.

P&WC developed the PW600 engine family to offer a significant step change in performance, cost and durability for the emerging very light jet market, which promises to make jet ownership accessible to an entirely new category of customers, including "air taxis."

"The new PW600 is revolutionizing the industry with next-generation turbofan engines for entry-level business and general aviation jets," said Tanner.

"Already, we have captured the bulk of the VLJ market with major customer wins, including the Citation Mustang (PW615F), the Eclipse 500 (PW610F), and the Embraer Phenom 100 (PW617F).

The PW600 engine series feature a newly patented compressor offering a simplified mechanical design and reduced part count, as well as a state-of-the-art dual-channel Full Authority Digital Electronic Control (FADEC).

"These engines reflect our firm commitment to technology innovation and best customer value," said Tanner. "Their success in penetrating the new entry-level jet market was driven by a key technology demonstrator program that confirmed the capabilities of this new engine family."

The PW600 turbofan engines are being assembled and tested in a new, state-of-the-art facility housed in P&WC's main manufacturing plant in Longueuil, Quebec.
