Business Aircraft Activity Up In May

But ARG/US Still Reports Fewer Operations Than Last Year

In a direct May 2008 to May 2009 comparison, Aviation Research Group/US reports that business aircraft activity, measuring all IFR flights in the United States (including Alaska and Hawaii) grew in May of this year, but still lags behind May of last year.

The company measures serial-number specific aircraft arrival and departure information. In the report sent to ANN, the data shows the gap continued to narrow throughout the month, but this year still trails 2008 by almost 19 percent. But while May business aircraft activity increased 3.3% from the previous month (April 2009), ARG/US estimates flight activity has dropped an average of 0.73% per month for the last twelve months, with total flight activity declining 21.52% year over year.

The report is divided into four categories: Turboprop, small cabin jet, mid-size cabin jet, and large cabin jet. While some categories, like Part 91 operation, saw slight increses, overall operations were down from May of last year in every category.
