Adilson Kindlemann Involved In A Practice Accident In Perth,
Australia
Brazilian pilot Adilson Kindlemann was involved in an accident
while practicing for the Red Bull Air Race to be held in Perth,
Australia. Kindlemann's plane went down just before noon local time
Thursday, impacting the Swan River. The pilot survived the
accident. His condition was described as "stable."
Perth's 7 News reports that the airplanes were operating out of
Jandakot airport due to high winds reported at Langley Park
airstrip.
A witness said the plane was heading up the Swan River in front
of a restaurant when a wing touched the water. Kindlemann was only
in the water for a few minutes before a rescue boat reached the
plane and took him ashore. He was transferred to Royal Perth
Hospital, where he was treated in the emergency room.
Red Bull Air Race chief executive Bernd Loidl said the
organization would offer its full support to an investigation.
Kindlemann is a former airline pilot with over 11,000 hours,
1,200 of that in aerobatics. He is the first South American to
compete in the Red Bull series.
An official statement from the Red Bull Air Race organization
said:
“While maneuvering his MXS-R
race plane, approaching gate three in the middle of the race track,
Kindlemann impacted the water with his wings level and tail first.
Specially trained emergency response teams rushed to the scene and
rescued Kindlemann as the aircraft floated in the water, in less
than one minute. He was then transported to the Royal Perth
Hospital.
Brazil’s Adilson Kindlemann
wanted to reassure his fans and supporters that he was feeling fine
and not seriously hurt. Kindlemann also wanted to thank the
emergency rescue crews that rushed to his aid.
He was treated for a minor whiplash
injury and said he hoped to be out of Royal Perth Hospital in time
to watch Friday’s training sessions. He also said he
appreciated the support from other Red Bull Air Race pilots."
The race in Perth is scheduled for this weekend.
