Lafayette Regional Gets Major Upgrade

Continental To Resume PAX/Cargo Service

The Lafayette Regional Airport (LA) is slated for approximately $4.1 million in improvements that officials say will lead to a resumption of Continental Airlines' commercial passenger service between the Louisiana city and Houston (TX).

Director of Aviation Greg Roberts says the improvements are funded several different ways - chief among them, a $1.8 million grant from the FAA.

Boon To Tourists, Seafood Lovers

Lafayette ships seafood caught in the Gulf of Mexico. Lots of seafood. Roberts says the airport improvements will be a boon to seafood companies wanting to ship fresh fish to destinations all over the world. Houston-based Continental Airlines will resume scheduled service between Houston and Lafayette will mean tour groups and fresh fish in abundance.

"The 737 has more available seating and has a greater cargo capacity than other jets," Roberts said in an Associated Press interview. "That's important for passenger groups, such as tour groups or school groups, who prefer to travel together in one airplane."
