Aero-TV: EMS Aviation -- A Full Range of Onboard Connectivity

EMS Aviation Is All About 'High-Level' Communication

EMS Aviation is a new division of EMS Technologies, Inc. and a leading supplier of airborne connectivity and cabin infrastructure equipment for a broad range of fixed and rotary wing commercial and military aircraft. The division enables reliable satellite-based airborne Internet connectivity and in-flight entertainment, messaging and tracking, rugged data storage and management, and data record and replay.

EMS Aviation is made up of the company’s former EMS SATCOM, EMS Formation and EMS Sky Connect business units and is 'a leading provider of Inmarsat, Iridium, Ku-band and air-to-ground connectivity systems' including proven commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) technology. EMS Aviation also offers built to suit products and technology for key avionics and airframe OEMS that are used in a variety of commercial and military aircraft.

EMS Aviation’s offerings include:

  • Inmarsat-based high-speed connectivity systems offering cabin and cockpit voice and data capabilities for business, air transport, general aviation, and military aircraft. Products include transceivers, antennas and networking equipment.
  • Iridium-based satellite transceiver systems and services for voice, data and tracking, for medevac and off-shore oil helicopters, and fixed-wing aircraft of all sizes.
  • In-cabin networking devices and computers to process data onboard aircraft, including rugged data storage, routers, data servers, communications management systems and data record and replay; and
  • Ku-band two-way broadband antennas delivering global high-bandwidth connectivity.

ANN met up with Vice President and General Manager, Nim Evatt, at the 2010 AEA Convention and Trade Show to get a feel for the current market status of EMS Aviation and where they see their future.

Nim Evatt serves as vice president and general manager of EMS Aviation, reporting to the President and CEO, Dr. Neil Mackay. Evatt oversees the day-to-day operations and helps lead the strategic direction for EMS’s largest division, with almost 500 employees in major facilities in Ottawa, Ontario, and Moorestown, N.J.
