Cirrus SR22 Receives EASA Certification

N-Numbers No Longer Required For European Owners

At the London Air Show last week, Cirrus Design announced that it received European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) certification for its Cirrus SR22. That means that effective immediately, all Cirrus SR series aircraft are Type Certified for import into the European Union.

"Now Cirrus owners can register their plane in their country of residence, as opposed to a US registration," Cirrus Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing, John M. Bingham said. "This is significant news for Cirrus and our potential owners across Europe. The EASA certification will also expedite development of market specific products that address the wants and needs of our European customer."

Cirrus CEO Alan Klapmeier added, "The European market plays an integral role in the strategic growth of the company. Personal Aviation offers tremendous value and this certification expands our ability to deliver that value to European customers."

Europe is the second largest market for Cirrus, behind the US. Cirrus is represented across Europe by eleven Authorized Sales Centers that help demonstrate Cirrus aircraft and educate prospective owners about Cirrus products.

"Our UK operation, based at Turweston Airport near Oxford is increasingly important as Cirrus develops its European distribution plan," Bingham added. "Along with the decision to partner with Britten-Norman for re-assembly of planes at its Isle of Wight plant, we are steadily ramping-up our ability to better sell and service new customers across the continent.". The SR22 follows its lower-powered sibling, the SR20, in receiving EASA certification. In June 2004, the SR20 was the first aircraft to be certified by the then-new EASA -- which replaced the Joint Aircraft Authority -- for aircraft imported into the European Union.

Cirrus manufactures the popular SR20 and SR22 composite airplanes, which in addition to other innovative features also includes the unique Cirrus Airframe parachute System (CAPS™). The company has a direct sales force in North America with sales centers across South America, Europe, China, Australasia, South Africa, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Russia.
