In a statement, Commandant of the Coast Guard Admiral Robert J. Papp said a full Coast Guard and interagency search and rescue effort had been launched launched, and  the aircraft was quickly located. One deceased crewmember was recovered, and extensive efforts continue to locate the other three crewmembers.

Papp said a full investigation will be conducted into this incident to determine the cause.

Petty Officer 2nd Class Elizabeth Bordelon told the Associated Press that the flight had departed from Aviation Training Center Mobile. Chief Petty Officer John Edwards told the news service that the aircraft was located in about 13 feet of water. Divers were working Wednesday to locate the other three crewmembers.
