Airborne 04.27.20: Ghost of Lightsquared!, Boeing v Embraer, Blues-TBirds!

Also: Aerion Supersonic, Aussie Airports Get Ugly, Progress Cargo Ship, FA's Union Wants Masks

We've learned that Lightsquared may be back... under a new name.

That's right -- An old nemesis to aviation GPS signal integrity made a new appearance this month as a satellite company named Ligado advanced its 5G wireless plan with a questionable  approval from the FCC. The company, formerly known as LightSquared, is pushing for permission to begin terrestrial 5G cellular and data service on frequencies it owns that were intended for satellite use. The proposal has caused divisions among government agencies as well as major corporations. It is similar to the plan the company brought forward in 2012, which faced major opposition before being rejected by the FCC. Recently, the FCC reversed its position and approved the Ligado proposal. Boeing has confirmed that it has terminated its Master Transaction Agreement (MTA) with Embraer... According to Boeing, "The parties had planned to create a joint venture comprising Embraer's commercial aviation business and a second joint venture to develop new markets for the C-390 Millennium medium airlift and air mobility aircraft. Under the MTA, April 24, 2020, was the initial termination date, subject to extension by either party if certain conditions were met." Embraer diagrees... In a show of national solidarity, the Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, the Blue Angels, and the Air Force Air Demonstration Squadron, the Thunderbirds, will conduct a series of multi-city flyovers over the next two weeks. America Strong is a collaborative salute from the Navy and Air Force to recognize healthcare workers, first responders, and other essential personnel while standing in solidarity with all Americans during the COVID-19 pandemic. The two demonstration teams will fly over areas of the country hardest hit by COVID-19, starting next week as both joint and individual team flights occur every one-to-two days until mid-May. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
