AUVSI 'Encouraged' By Work Of UAV Registration Task Force

Wynne: FAA Should Continue Work On Finalizing Small UAV Rule

The president and CEO of the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI), and a member of the UAS registration task force, says the work of the panel and the release Monday of its recommendations are a step forward for the industry, but that the FAA still has work to do.

“AUVSI is encouraged by the work of the UAS registration task force and its recommendations to the FAA," Brian Wynne said in a statement following the release. "This collaborative effort is an important step towards developing an efficient process for UAS registration that should lead to increased accountability across the entire aviation community.

“The work of the task force is also an important example of how government and the UAS industry should come together on more complex issues involving UAS, such as beyond visual line of sight operations and a UAS Traffic Management system.

“While the FAA plans to move quickly to consider the task force’s recommendations and create a registration system, the FAA should continue its work to integrate UAS into the national airspace and finalize the small UAS rule. Putting the rule in place will provide the necessary tools and training to create a culture of safety that will help deter careless and reckless behavior.

“The FAA’s small UAS rulemaking has been beset by several delays. Considering that safety is at stake, we cannot afford  to continue waiting. The FAA needs to make UAS integration a top priority.”
