Wings Over the Rockies Celebrates Aviation Day

Special Aviation Day Offerings At Both Locations

Wings Over the Rockies (Wings) is hosting Aviation Day celebrations this week at both their Lowry, Denver and Centennial Airport locations. Aviation Day is an American holiday that celebrates the development of aviation.

Established in 1939 by Franklin D. Roosevelt, Aviation Day occurs each year on Aug. 19, Orville Wright’s birthday. Among dozens of iconic aircraft and artifacts, Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum visitors will get to see a significant piece of aviation history, a Wright Flyer propeller signed by Orville Wright in 1944.

Aviation Day celebrations at Wings Air & Space Museum (Lowry) includes discounted admissions from Aug. 19-23, paper airplane, photo contests, and prizes for participants of all ages. The first 50 visitors on Aug. 19 will also receive a free gift.

At Wings Over the Rockies Exploration of Flight at Centennial Airport, celebrations will kick off on Aug. 22 with discounted admission, contests, flight experiences (not included in admission), and meet and greets with pilots.

Wings’ President and CEO John Barry notes, “We are excited to celebrate Aviation Day with our friends and guests, and to continue our mission to educate and inspire people of all ages about aviation and space endeavors of the past, present and future.”

Wings Over the Rockies is following all State and Federal recommendations regarding Coronavirus (COVID-19). "Our first priority is the safety of our guests, staff, and volunteers and we are taking extra measures to help keep our community healthy."
