Two Pilots Survive Alaska Mid-Air Collision

Both Seriously Injured In Accident In Mat-Su Valley Saturday

Two fixed-wing airplanes, one of them belonging to the state of Alaska, were involved in a mid-air collision Saturday in the Mat-Su Valley region of the state.

The accident occurred early in the afternoon, according to a report from television station KTVA. One of the aircraft involved was an Alaska Wildlife Trooper airplane flown by 35-year-old Levi Duell. The other pilot was identified as 52-year-old Jeffrey Bara. Both survived the accident with serious injuries. The station reports that Bara was flown by LifeMed helicopter to Anchorage, while the Trooper was taken by ambulance to Mat-Su Regional Hospital.

NTSB investigator Clint Johnson said witnesses observed a wing separating from one of the aircraft.

Duell and Bara were the only people on board the aircraft. The NTSB is continuing its on-site investigations at both accident scenes.
