Drunk British EasyJet Pilot Arrested

This makes two in one day... is it time for a fire-and-brimstone crackdown?

Hot on the heels of the story of the drunk and armed AirTran pilot/federal flight deck officer getting arrested in the cockpit after a TSA screener smelled alcohol, another pilot was arrested last week in the Germany for failing a breathalizer test. This time it was a female EasyJet captain due to fly from Berlin, Germany to Basel, Switzerland.

Acting on a tip, Schonefeld Airport police officers stopped the unidentified pilot and administered a breathalizer test, which she failed. She was immediately arrested. The incident took place before any passengers had boarded the 0645 flight last Saturday. Another pilot was found, and the flight departed just 24 minutes behind schedule.

EasyJet spokesperson Toby Nicol told the BBC: "This is the first time an incident like this has happened in nine years of operation. Should the allegations be proven, EasyJet would be very distressed."

"We actively encourage people to come forward if they suspect that someone has been drinking," added Nicol.

EasyJet bars pilots from drinking any alcohol up to 10 hours prior to a flight, a timeframe 25% longer than the UK Civil Aviation Authority regulations.
