Discovery Wings Channel Sponsors Be A Pilot Program

You Sponsor Us, We Sponsor You.

What goes around comes around. Discovery Wings Channel is now a sponsor of the BE A PILOT program. “As the premiere destination for aviation enthusiasts, Discovery Wings Channel is delighted to help support BE A PILOT’s effort to introduce more Americans and Canadians to personal involvement in the exciting world of aviation,” said David Karp, senior vice president and general manager of Discovery Wings Channel. “Our programming covers all facets of powered flight, from classic biplanes to high-tech experimental aircraft, while also focusing on the personal journey of flight. We’re thrilled to help future pilots find their wings, and our association with BE A PILOT is a great way to show our ongoing support of the aviation community.”

Of special interest to the flight training community is a new Discovery Wings Channel program, "Learning To Fly." The 13-part series, produced by EAA and the National Association of Flight Instructors (NAFI), follows a real student and CFI through the many challenges and achievements of earning a pilot license.

Having premiered on Discovery Wings Channel on April 28, the series will air again at 9:00 p.m. ET on May 11 and 25, June 8, 15, 22 and 29. “It’s truly remarkable to have someone like Discovery Wings Channel sponsoring BE A PILOT,” said BE A PILOT president and CEO Drew Steketee. “It reflects Discovery’s commitment to aviation. I believe it reflects well on the effectiveness and importance of what BE A PILOT is doing for the General Aviation community. And I hope other companies in aviation that should be sponsoring BE A PILOT will take notice.”

Big Viewer Response

Discovery Networks has long been a major outlet for BE A PILOT’s extensive learn-to-fly messages on national cable TV. Some of BE A PILOT’s greatest consumer response has come from advertising on Discovery Wings Channel and on Discovery Channel and TLC program favorites such as DISCOVERY SUNDAY and JUNKYARD WARS, respectively.

New learn-to-fly ads will air on Discovery Wings Channel, Discovery Channel and The Science Channel, among eight cable networks carrying BE A PILOT commercials this year. More than 700 BE A PILOT messages will air across these Discovery Networks this season. BE A PILOT advertising will appear during breaks within such Discovery Wings Channel programs as WINGS AT WORK, WINGS AT WAR, DESTINATION SPACE and the network’s year-long celebration of the 100th anniversary of powered flight, CENTENNIAL OF FLIGHT. Among all cable outlets, Discovery Wings Channel is currently producing the most viewer requests for BE A PILOT’s free Introductory Flight Certificate. (The certificate entitles consumers to a low-cost ($49) first flying lesson at one of 1,944 participating flight schools in the U.S. and Canada.)
