Snoozing Business Class Passengers Have Pockets Picked

Air France Passengers Lost Over $5,700

Five business-class passengers sleeping through a long Air France flight from Tokyo to Paris woke up to find they had been relieved of their money, and there was nothing the airline could do about it.

The flight departed from Tokyo at about 2200 local time, and arrives in Paris at about 0400.

MSNBC reports that one passenger woke to find more than $4,300 missing from her purse. Four others said they were similarly robbed She alerted the flight crew, and police met the aircraft when it arrived in Paris.  But that didn't mean there was an arrest, or the passengers got their money back.

Air France says while they will take responsibility for checked luggage, passengers are responsible for their personal belongings carried into the cabin of the aircraft. An Air France spokeswoman told MSNBC "I would say that it is really extremely rare to have several passengers at once reporting thefts on board."

"There is an investigation under way," a spokesman for the border police at Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris said when asked to confirm a report on the Web site of the Le Figaro. But so far,
