Expanded Qantas, Jetstar Training Facility To Create 100 New Jobs

Victoria State Government Mum Amount Of Public Money Spent On The Project

The expansion of a Qantas and Jetstar training facility in the Australian state of Victoria is expected to bring 100 aviation-related jobs to the region, but the state government is not answering questions about the amount of tax money being spent on the facility.

Premier Dr. Denis Napthine announced the new jobs alongside Qantas CEO Alan Joyce at the Qantas training center at Airport West Tuesday morning, according to a report from Business Day. While he said there was public money involved, he said the investment was "modest" and did not disclose the exact amount.

The $100 million (Australian) center will be the home of a 787 flight simulator and other equipment. The jobs will include cabin crew trainers, engineers, and simulator inspectors to support the Dreamliner's entry into service for Qantas, according to a statement from the airline.

Business Day reports that Qantas group laid off "hundreds" of engineers from its Tullamarine and Avalon service centers in 2012.
