Pitts Special Down In Turkey

Pilot Fatally Injured During Air Show Routine

A Pitts Special performing during an air show in Turkey has gone down during the performance, resulting in the fatal injury of the pilot.

The Turkish daily newspaper Hurriyet reports that pilot Murat Ozturk was performing when he failed to recover from a spin that began at about 1500 feet. A video posted on YouTube shows the last few minutes of the routine, as well as some of the aftermath.

Ozturk was described as one of Turkey's most experienced aerobatic pilots. He was the only person on board the airplane, and no one on the ground was injured. No further details were available.
