FAA Serves Complaint On Mayor Daley For Meigs Closure

The FAA has notified Mayor Richard M. Daley and the city of Chicago that it has opened a formal complaint docket to consider AOPA's allegations that the city violated federal regulations when it closed Meigs Field airport without proper notice. On April 4, AOPA filed a formal complaint with FAA against Mayor Daley and the city contending that they had violated federal law (49 U.S.C. § 44502 (c)) and various sections of Part 157 of the Federal Aviation Regulations. AOPA has also filed suit in federal court over these alleged violations.

In the certified letter to Daley, the FAA said, "In accordance with Section 13.5(f) of the FAA's Investigative and Enforcement Procedures (14 C.F.R. § 13.5(f)), you are required to file an answer within 20 days of service of a copy of this complaint."
