Airborne 05.08.19: eFlyer ReBranded, ACJ319neo Record, AirVenture NOTAM

Also: Skyblazer Academy, Hera's Cubesat, F-35As in Combat, FAA Aerospace Forecast

Bye Aerospace has rebranded its family of electric aircraft formerly known as “Sun Flyer” to “eFlyer”.

George E. Bye, Founder and CEO of Bye Aerospace, said eFlyer more accurately represents the aircraft’s high-tech all-electric propulsion system. “We originally thought solar cells would be standard on the airplane’s wings,” Bye said. “However, with eFlyer’s primary markets being flight training and air taxi services, it makes more sense to make the price of the airplane as reasonable as possible.” The eFlyer family of aircraft, including the 2-seat eFlyer 2 and the 4-seat eFlyer 4, aims to be the first FAA-certified, practical, all-electric airplanes to serve the flight training and general aviation markets. The first ACJ319neo successfully completed a 16-hr. and 10-min. test flight on April 26th, setting a new record for the longest A320 Family flight by an Airbus crew. The first ACJ319neo successfully completed a 16-hr. and 10-min. test flight on April 26th, setting a new record for the longest A320 Family flight by an Airbus crew. It flew from Toulouse to northern Greenland and back, in an endurance flight that included a simulated diversion under 180 min ETOPS rules, for which the A320 airliner family is already certified. The aircraft is due to be delivered to K5 Aviation of Germany in the coming months, after ACJ319neo flight trials are completed. The latest EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2019 NOTAM contains FAA-approved procedural changes that emerged from pilot feedback, and EAA has made additional arrival procedure recommendations to enhance safety. The NOTAM contains a new diversion procedure implemented by the FAA based on EAA recommendations, which flows traffic to Fond du Lac County Airport (KFDL) in the event of airport closure at Wittman Regional Airport (KOSH). All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
