Author Col. Hal Weekley To Appear At Sebring In January

Last Known WWII B-17 Pilot Will Address Volunteers, Sign Books

The US Sport Aviation Expo is very pleased to announce that Colonel Harold D. (Hal) Weekley, USAF (Ret.) will attend and participate in the 2011 Expo, scheduled for January 20-23, 2011 at Sebring Regional Airport, Sebring, FL. Hal, a well-known B-17 pilot and author, in 1943 trained at Hendricks Field, now Sebring Regional Airport. Bob Wood, the Expo Chairman says, "We are very excited to have Hal Weekley here to help us present our "Salute to Veterans" to which the event is dedicated."

Weekley will be present on Friday and Saturday during the show, and will address Expo Volunteers at the Volunteer Recognition Dinner, titled "Friday Night at the USO", in addition to presenting one or more forums on his experience as a B-17 pilot during WWII. He will conduct signings of his book "The Last of the Combat B-17 Drivers" written with James Zazas which highlights Hal's life and focuses on his time as "Flying Fortress" pilot. He details his training, missions over Germany which included being shot down. With French citizens' help he avoided capture and returned to continue flying during the war. His depiction of the great B-17, his aircraft mates and their harrowing experiences in the skies over Europe make his book a classic that is required reading for any history buff.

Hal and his wife Billie were married in Sebring as his training there was just getting underway. She plans to accompany him to the Expo.
