SAFE, Redbird Pilot Proficiency Project Opens At AirVenture 2014

Eleven Simulator Challenges Will Put Skills To The Test

The Society of Aviation and Flight Educators (SAFE) and Redbird Flight Simulations will host free Pilot Proficiency Program (PPP) sessions at AirVenture 2014 from Monday, May 28 through Saturday, August 2.

The sessions will focus solely on eleven challenging VFR and IFR scenarios in an advanced Redbird MCX motion simulator, which is a full-motion feature-rich advanced Aviation Training Device with dual controls and wrap-around visuals in a fully enclosed cockpit. “It serves up a level of realism that is simply unavailable in other training devices on the market,” said Charlie Gregoire, VP of Sales and Marketing for Redbird,

“These Pilot Proficiency Project sessions let pilots experience the effectiveness of flight simulation in maintaining proficiency,” said SAFE Executive Director Doug Stewart. “Many pilots are not flying as much now because of the high cost of fuel, and thus losing their proficiency. Flight simulation offers a cost-effective, alternative means of maintaining proficiency.”

The Redbird simulator will be available from 9 AM to 2 PM each day, Monday through Saturday. Pre-registration is required and will be first-come, first-served at the SAFE exhibit tent, space 35 on James Ray Boulevard near College Park. Ten 30 minute simulator sessions will be available each day.

Redbird President Charlie Gregoire said the company was delighted to once again partner with SAFE for the challenging simulator sessions. “Many pilots wouldn’t dare attempt these scenarios by themselves in a real airplane,” said Gregoire, “but they can here with complete safety. It’s a SAFE way to maintain your proficiency.”
