Las Vegas Shooter Was A Pilot, Aircraft Owner

Was Issued A Private Pilot Certificate In 2003

Stephen Paddock, the man authorities say opened fire in Las Vegas on Sunday resulting in nearly 60 deaths and injuries to more than 500 others, held a private pilot certificate with an instrument rating, according to the FAA database.

Paddock was issued a private pilot certificate on November 17, 2003, according to FAA records. Multiple Twitter users are indicating that he had owned at least two airplanes over the past several years. He had recently purchased a home in a retirement community for $369,000 in Mesquite, NV.

CNN is reporting that Paddock's third class medical certificate had expired.

Flight Aware cites FAA records showing that a person named Stephen Paddock with addresses in Henderson, NV and Mesquite, TX owned a Cirrus SR20 (N5343M) from June 2006 to May 2007. The other type of aircraft is unclear.
