Operations Will Continue as Normal, New Products Allegedly Incoming For AirVenture 2022
The light aircraft manufacturer based out of the world's aviation hub of Oshkosh, Wisconsin is under new ownership after the assets of both Sonex Aircraft and Sonex Aerospace were purchased by company man Mark Schaible.
The two have been joined to form Sonex, LLC for the continued operation and support for kit aircraft and upcoming designs.
The staff of Sonex have been retained, and the new ownership says that little change will be seen for current customers and outstanding orders. Products will ship as usual, parts will still be available, and development on projects in the works will continue just as they did under founder John Monnett’s tenure. The most interesting Sonex aircraft in recent display is the company's JSX-2T 2-seat SubSonex Personal Jet, expected to debut at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2022. Sonex anticipates other reveals this year, including additional support for Rotax 912-series, UL Power, and Jabiru engines under their AeroConversions product line.
One year later, the high-wing aircraft is slated to appear at AirVenture 2023. The new leadership played up the importance of a varied product line in their plans going forward, where Schaible has said “Future strength for Sonex will come from innovation and diversity within our product line, as we see great things on the horizon." Whether that variation is a blessing or a curse, only time will tell.
The AeroConversions line will continue to support and offer the AeroVee (a derivative of the classic VW air-cooled engines), its turbo version, the AeroInjector, and the full assortment of engine conversion accessories. Sonex says they will continue to develop and add features to the AeroVee, expanding their support to include "experimental aircraft projects of all brands and types." The final product line will be completed under a separate company, Sonex Aerospace, which will focus on developing unmanned aircraft systems and related equipment for the rapidly expanding UAV ecosystem. In 2015 Sonex was chosen to assist in the Teros Group 4/5 design process. The UAV carries the hallmarks of Sonex DNA, and the company has reportedly continued to support the Navmar Applied Sciences Corporation to make the Teros available for government and commercial services.
