Prince William Gets His RAF Wings

Next Step: Training In Sea King Helicopters

Prince William was awarded his flying badge by his father, Prince Charles, in ceremonies at  RAF Shawbury in Shrophire Friday. The person second in line to the British throne is now one step closer to becoming an RAF SAR pilot.

Prince William, who is known as "Flight Lieutenant Wales", has been in training for 12 months as Shawbury and just completed the advanced helicopter course. The international news service AFP reports that his next station is RAF Valley on Anglesey, North Wales, where he'll train in Sea King helicopters.

Prince William is not the first member of the Royal Family to qualify as an RAF helicopter pilot. Both his father, Prince Charles, and his uncle, the Duke of York have flown helos for the RAF.  His uncle saw service during the Falklands War.
