Lancair Evolution Down In Mesa, AZ

Two Fatally Injured In The Accident Monday

A Lancair Evolution went down Monday on a golf course in Mesa, AZ, resulting in the fatal injury of the pilot and a passenger on board the aircraft.

Audio recordings of the conversation between the pilot and air traffic controller released Tuesday indicate that the airplane was experiencing a mechanical problem when the accident occurred.

571JM: And Falcon Tower, Evolution 571JM.

Tower: 571JM Falcon Tower, you're number two...just a two mile final, Runway 22 Left, clear to land.

571JM: Runway 22 Left. And I'm still quite a bit to the west of you. Is it okay if I cross midfield and drop into a left downwind for 22 Left?

Tower: 10-4, that's fine.

571JM: Alright sir, I'm having, still having an electrical issue. I had one on Friday and I'm... I'm about to go dead. So I'm just going to cross over and make left- (Loss of audio).

Television station KPNX reports that the plane went down on the 10th hole of the golf course near the Falcon Field airport (KFFZ). The pilot was identified as 53-year-old Alan Ram, the owner of Alan Ram's Proactive Training Solutions. He consulted with the automotive industry. The passenger was 22-year-old Krista Buchanan.

No further information is currently available. The NTSB will likely release a preliminary report sometime next week.
