Airborne 09.23.19: Yeager Sues Airbus, Huge NYC TFR, Area 51 ‘Threat’

Also: Mitsubishi Aircraft, Female Apache Pilot, NASA Funds CubeSat Pathfinder, ARAC DPE Reforms

General Yeager is not done fighting battles, but this time he may not have strategized his plan of attack as well as he might have.

General Yeager, along with an attorney known for some ‘interesting’ legal tactics in past skirmishes, are suing European juggernaut Airbus... because he believes they used his name, and rep without his permission... even though what Airbus seems to have done is publish some material related to Yeager’s historical precedents while trying to establish one of their own. The lawsuit, filed last week, unabashedly refers to the General as “one of the most, if not the most, famous pilots of all time.” Yeager, 96, and his lawyer have objected to a June 2017 website article that refers to Yeager’s Mach-busting history while also indicating their intention to make the Airbus Racer a fast new  generation of aircraft. The Federal Government’s continuing airspace grabs in the name of the political TFR continue unabated... and if you’re planning to do any flying in the NYC area, you better plan carefully. General aviation pilots flying in the New York/New Jersey Metropolitan Area starting last Saturday, September 21st through the 29th should check to make sure they are aware of the flight restrictions that will be in place for the 74th Session of the UN General Assembly. We’re not completely sure how to characterize this story... either a US Defense agency has a bad sense of humor or UFO aficionados can’t take a joke. Atweet made in reference to the lackluster ‘Storm Area 51’ event showed the Defense Visual Information Distribution Service (DVIDS) publishing a photo of a number of military personnel lined up in front of a B-2 Bomber and a message that read, "The last thing #Miillenials will see if they attempt the #area51raid today." Dumb? Yes. Funny? Sure, maybe... A threat? Uhh... no. Still, the poor attempt at humor was seen as a threat by the tin-foil hat crowd and the inevitable tweet apology followed shortly thereafter... All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
