Aero-TV at OSH21: George Bye Speaks At Oshkosh About The eFlyer Series

eFlyer Updates From The Founder, CEO & Chairman of Bye Aerospace

“Bye Aerospace has been flying and maintaining electric aircraft for the last five years. It’s not a concept, it’s not a PowerPoint, it’s an active, operating electric aircraft… a technology demonstrator for motors and batteries but most importantly, it’s a technology demonstrator for the future of general aviation,” George Bye says, enthusiastically.

“The eFlyer 2, is the world’s first normal category Part 23 Amendment 64 normal category aircraft. We have three hours of flight endurance with the eFlyer 2. The aircraft uses a certified Saffron electric motor,” Bye explains.

Moving into the eFlyer 4, many of the aspects are similar. The eFlyer 4 has a 48 inch wide cabin that is similar width to a Cirrus, but one of the great benefits of electric is that it is insensitive to density altitude, according to Bye. “So all of the limitations of a non-turbo charged airplane don’t apply to electric,” he says.

“The eFlyer 4, with range, speed and altitude has all of the benefits of supercharged, without the cost. We have the same torque at 17,000 feet as we do at sea level. We have nearly the same climb rate at 17,000 feet as we do at sea level. So eFlyer 4, over 1,000 feet per minute rate of climb, 200 kts at 200 KWs, 330 nautical mile range and no payload exchange,” he reports.

“The fuel payload exchange that we normally experience when we plan our flight we are trading fuel for payload,” Bye continues. “We are paying attention to density altitude and temperature. Of course we still do that, we still have weight and balance, but it’s much more simplified with electric. All of the specifications on this aircraft create a new paradigm and utility in air taxi, in transportation.”

The eFlyer 800 takes the systems and capabilities from the 2 and the 4 and creates a turboprop category of aircraft with the benefits and technology of electric in a 35,000 foot, 8 place, pressurized aircraft.

SkyAviation, a leasing company who already has a number of 2 and 4’s on order, has put a deposit down for 15 of the eFlyer 800 aircraft. The 800 is expected to arrive on the market certified in the 2025 range.
