AEA Attends EASA Annual Conference In Germany

Represented Interests Of Association's European Members On A Variety Of Issues

Last week, Ric Peri (pictured), AEA vice president of government and industry affairs, was in Cologne, Germany, attending multiple meetings on behalf of the AEA European membership. There were a number of issues raised during the EASA annual Maintenance & Production Conference as well as the semiannual Engineering & Maintenance technical meeting. These issues will be fully covered at the AEA Europe Connect Conference in Amsterdam next April.

There are three major highlights of last week's meetings that are of importance to the association.

Based on input from the membership, the AEA raised the question for clarification regarding the installation of 8.33 MHz radios in private use aircraft. Apparently, there is some confusion regarding the installation requirements with regards to "additional radios." The question has been raised with the EASA, and an answer is expected in the next few weeks.

There will be an NPA within the next month or two regarding the next level of modifications authorized under CS-STAN. Watch for an AEA regulatory update when the NPA is available for public comment. This will be an ideal opportunity to address some of the simpler (non-integrated) avionics installations.

After a long road, the B2L license has finally cleared.

And finally, the EASA has asked for the AEA's help in reviewing parts 66 and 147. Next week, AEA will be distributing a survey asking questions that will be compiled and incorporated into a unified response to a limited EASA survey.

These topics and many more will be discussed at the AEA Europe Connect Conference in Amsterdam on 10-11 April, 2017.
