Seven also accepted
into new apprentice training program
Hank Engel, HR director for Mooney Airplane Company, has
announced the recent addition of 45 new individuals
to its employee roster. In addition, the company has filled
seven positions in its newly launched apprentice training
program.
The 45 new employees will fill such roles as welders, sheet
metal fabricators, avionics technicians, interior installers and
more. Nine of the 20 positions were administrative roles
added within the sales department.
"We have recently experienced an increased production demand,
which prompted the addition of the 45 positions," Engel said.
"In addition, the launch of Mooney's new business plan created the
need for more help to support aggressive sales goals. We are
expecting a few more retirements in the next few months and plan to
fill those positions immediately, as well."
Mooney gave seven people the opportunity to join its
apprenticeship program, which launched in late April 2004.
Approved by the U.S. Department of Labor, the program offers
individuals two years of apprentice training in order to earn their
Aircraft and Power Plant (AP&P) license, which certifies them
to service both the aircraft and its engine. Apprentices work
five days a week, eight hours a day under the supervision of an
experienced craftsman. Each apprentice rotates throughout the
factory every three to six months in order to learn the entire
system. Following the two-year training, they are placed
within Mooney in a full-time position.
"While this is a brand new program, we are excited about our
first round of apprentices," Engel said. "We plan to give
them a truly well-rounded experience during their two-year study in
order to give them every opportunity to excel in their future
aviation endeavors."
