Aviation Companies Expand South Florida’s Job Economy

Aircraft Manufacturers And Service Companies Hiring

If you're looking for a job in aviation, south Florida may be a place you want to consider. Several south Florida communities are actively promoting their region as a place where the the aviation industry is expanding and jobs are being created.

Over the past five years at least six companies have increased activity and created jobs. The Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport’s expansion and increasing passenger traffic has generated business, according to David Coddington, a business development executive for the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance. This industry employs 37,000 people at the Fort Lauderdale airport and its related businesses. The aviation industry in Palm Beach County employs over 10,000 people through 250 businesses, to include Lockheed Martin, Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne and Sikorsky Aircraft.

Engine overhaul company CTS Engines is hiring at its new Fort Lauderdale headquarters and has purchased 45 acres in western Palm Beach County for engine testing. CTS expects to hire 27 workers by year’s end and 125 to 250 employees within the next two years according to company president Konrad Walter. The company maintains and repairs engines for airlines, freight companies and aircraft leasing companies. Walter said the new positions will have salaries ranging from $35,000 to $100,000 annually.

In Palm Beach County both Lockheed Martin and Sikorsky have announced expansions last year with Lockheed adding 50 jobs in Riveria Beach and Sikorsky adding 14 manufacturing and engineering positions.
