Aero-News BOLO: Search Underway For Missing Lancair

Pilot Flying From Nassau To PBI When Contact Lost

The search continues for a Lancair IV that disappeared Saturday while en route from Nassau International Airport in the Bahamas, to West Palm Beach, FL.

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports Harris Sullivan, 68, was flying to Palm Beach International Saturday morning when controllers lost contact with him at approximately 1100 EDT, about 50 miles northwest of the Bahamas.

The US Coast Guard is conducting the search, using a C-130 and a Falcon jet.

Crews located an empty orange life raft Saturday night about 15 miles from the plane's last recorded position, though it's not known if the raft was from the missing aircraft.

Weather conditions at the time the plane disappeared were not reported, although ANN has received word the plane was being diverted around thunderstorms at the time it disappeared.

Flight tracking website FlightAware.com shows a Lancair IV registered to Harris Sullivan, N95HS, on an IFR flight plan from Nassau to PBI Saturday.
