NATA: Illinois Congressman To Be Named DOT Secretary

Ray LaHood A "Leading Advocate" For State Transportation Needs

ANN REALTIME REPORTING 12.17.08 1710 EST: The National Air Transportation Association tells ANN it has learned Congressman Ray LaHood (R-IL) will be nominated by President-elect Obama on Friday as the next secretary of the US Department of Transportation.

LaHood, a seven-term Republican Member of the US House of Representatives who announced his retirement from Congress last year, will become the second Republican to join the President-elect’s Cabinet.

NATA notes LaHood, elected in 1994, has been a leading advocate for improving the state of Illinois' transportation infrastructure, including being a "proponent for improving local airports through securing funds for new construction and expansion, while also working with officials to increase air service."

ANN will have more details as they become available. LaHood's biography is available at the first FMI link below.
