ANN's Daily Aero-Term (01.12.06): ADCUS

Aero-Terms!

Designed to be a daily reminder of the terms, names, acronyms and explanations of the unique language that populates the aviation world, ANN Contributor Aleta "I'm Not Making An Asterisk Of Myself" Vinas will be selecting... and defining unique aeronautical terms each day from all tiers of the aviation world...

Aerospace, sport aviation, fixed wing, helo, you name it... it's all fair game and with a full year's selection already coming together, we can assure you that Aero-Terms should serve as a quick but intriguing reminder of the terms you may use every day or an introduction to an aspects of the Aero-World you may not yet be familiar with.

Cool, no?

Suggestions for future Aero-Terms are ALWAYS welcome, as are additions or discussion of the explanations given for each Aero-Term.

ADCUS

Advise Customs message in the remarks section of the returning to the US flight plan consisting of the word ADCUS followed by the pilot's name and the number of persons on board (POB) with a notation of the number of non-U.S. citizens. This notification may be provided through FAA; however, this entails the relaying of information and is not as timely or reliable as direct communication. It is recommended that, if possible, pilots attempt to communicate directly with CBP (Customs and Border Protection) by telephone or other means to insure that an officer will be available at the time requested. It is the ultimate responsibility of the pilot to insure CBP is properly notified, and the failure to do so may subject the pilot to penalty action. No cussing if you didn’t ADCUS.
