North Carolina Receives No Bids On State Helicopter

The Sikorsky S-76C+ Drew Yawns On eBay

The state of North Carolina is trying to sell a 1998 Sikorsky S-76C+ helicopter ... without much success. A recent listing on the online auction site eBay drew yawns ... and no bids ... for the helo.

Governor Pat McCrory listed the aircraft on the auction site last month, saying it is not often used and citing savings to the state's taxpayers if it could be sold, according to a report from television station WRAL. The minimum bid on the aircraft, which was acquired by the state in 2007, was set at $1.5 million.

The state budgets $265,000 annually to operate the aircraft, which logged about 417 hours between 2007 and 2013 at a cost of about $2.2 million.

The North Carolina DOT is placing the aircraft back on eBay for a second try. If this attempt turns out like the last, McCrory spokesman Josh Ellis said that the agency will look for other ways to sell the aircraft.
