NYPD Aviation Chief Grounded. Guess Why?

If You Said "Flew Into A TFR," Advance One Space

Who watches those who watch? That's a timeless question -- and it applies to a recent incident involving the chief of aviation for the New York Police Department.

According to media reports, Joseph Gallucci was actually learning to fly when he, his instructor, and their aircraft overflew the Tobyhanna Army Depot Friday near Wilkes-Barre, PA while President Bush was giving a Veterans Day speech at the facility.

As was reported in Aero-News, a Temporary Flight Restriction was in place at the time.

The unidentified CFI instructing Gallucci was ordered to vacate the airspace and was then told to land and have a chat with the Secret Service.

The CFI -- and Gallucci -- complied and spent the next couple of hours explaining themselves before they were allowed to return to their own airport.
